These last couple days, the game of Grifball has consumed me. If you visit the official Grifball website, you’ll see an image which reads “Grifball - It’s contagious”. They’re not kidding. Once you play a couple games, you’re addicted. To say the game is fun would be a huge understatement. It doesn’t require a whole lot of skill, other than above average reflexes and killer timing. If you have a quick trigger finger you’ll no doubt taste a little success in Grifball.
As an example, here’s a couple screenshots from a game I played last night. 67 kills and a kill to death ratio of plus 38. Considering Grifball basically is no more than 8 players swinging giant hammers at each other in fits of chaos, I’d like to think I did pretty well.
If you love stocking your cupboard with oodles of medals, Grifball is perfect. Count them if you’d like. 94 medals in ONE game. Wow.
Yep, I even got a killionaire. That was my second one of the night.
As I reported yesterday, Bungie planned to add the sport of Grifball to matchmaking in Halo 3 for the weekend. Technically it’s longer than just the weekend since it all got started around 3 PM eastern standard time yesterday afternoon. It’s safe to say the game is a huge success. I started playing within minutes after the Grifball variant was added to the playlist and in just a couple short hours there were already nearly 30,000 people playing it. Later on that night the number was over 50,000!
If you’ve never played Grifball, you really should give it a try. I’ve been having a blast. In just under a full day of playing Grifgall I’ve managed to scoop up a crap load of medals. 63 overkills, 30 killtaculars, 15 killtrocities, 7 killamanjaros, 4 killtastrophes, 4 killpocalypses, 1 killionaire, 6 exterminations and a partridge in a pear tree. Not bad!
That would be me, rocking the boom stick in Grifball.
Not only can you rack up a ton of medals, but Bungie is also dealing out double EXP points for every win, so if you’re close to ranking up and need a little EXP boost, there’s a good chance you’ll get it with Grifball.
